Nanaimo Museum

IMG_6106

This excellent small museum covers the history of Nanaimo, a traditional homeland of the native Snuneymuxw and a city  founded by the Hudson Bay company chiefly to export  coal mined in the hills to the north. Exhibits include First Nations, coal mining, China Town, logging and lumber mills.

  The museum is accessible.

Parking is limited near the museum. We parked a few blocks north on Chapel Street – two hour metered parking. The sidewalks and curb cuts are in good condition but it’s a bit of a push uphill on the way back.  Museum  49.165, -123.93662
